Project title: A Computational Reasoning Framework for Legal Analysis of Digital Forensic Evidence
Project description: My research focuses on the use of computational algorithms in law, by primarily implementing works in computational reasoning, argumentation, and the statistical significance of forensic evidence. The purpose of this research is three-fold, it primarily aims to introduce a universally applicable method for the assessment of expert evidence focusing on the developing field of digital forensics and economic-focused computer crime. The secondary objectives are to create a methodology to empirically assess evidence and to pave the way for future research in the adoption of computer-based processes in law. The purpose for such research is to improve the predictability of legal decision making, and in turn, improve both the perception and application of notions such as fairness and precedence, which it is expected will improve access to justice and consistent sentencing for offenders.
